Ranting and Self Disgust

Before work today, I rushed downstairs and cut the fabric for the Castles in Spain block. I was in a hurry. I am not the world's best fabric cutter anyway. I made some unfortunate cuts to one triangle, but figured that since they were still outside the 1/4 inch line I could just leave them there until it was pieced and then trim them off. I also did not bother to mark the backs of the pieces with the letter they represented in order to save even more time. Below are the fabrics once I cut them.

Yes, the fabrics are glitzy. But here comes my rant. Or the bemoaning of my stupidity in not marking the pieces with the proper letter. If you look at the above picture, you may notice that the two sets of triangles in the medium fabric look pretty close in size. Who would have known that quarter square triangles cut from a 4 3/8 inch square would be so close in size to half square triangles cut from 3 1/8 inch squares? Okay, someone who enjoys math. After cutting said triangles, I threw them in the plastic baggy that I use to carry the pieces back and forth to work. They fraternized. Intermingled.

When I got to the point where I had marked the seams on all of the pieces and was ready to start joining the pieces you see in the picture below, I wasn't sure which triangles were which. I measured the sides - almost exactly the same. Eventually, I decided to just use the ones that fit together with the light Fairy Frost fabric (yep, more Fairy Frost), and we will hope it will all turn out okay. I'm sure that we'll find out in the near future.

I'm going to get back to work now and quilt on!
